The Nitro Bar
Worth the line. Our favorites are the cookie butter latte and the banana latte. The flavors rotate and the baked goods are good too. There’s a second spot on Pond Avenue.
Visit →Newport has plenty of tourist traps. These are the places we actually go when we’re in town. Julia picked a few, so no promises. Enjoy!

Known for its cinnamon rolls, and they’re very good. The breakfast sandwiches and bread are great too. Good for breakfast or a midday snack.

One of our favorites. A good burger, hot dogs (grilled or boiled), fries and about 14 espresso martinis. Casual and quick.

A great stop on the way to the beach. Smash-style burgers, hot dogs and fries. No Vacancy Coffee Co. is a cute coffee counter in the same building.

Everyone should get a lobster roll while they’re here. Try the truffle butter or spicy honey butter. It’s on Bowen’s Wharf, close to shops and boat tours.

Very casual, right across from the beach and 5 to 10 minutes from downtown. The clam strips are worth it. Sit out on the deck on a nice day.

Run by the Newport Fishermen’s Co-op on State Pier 9. They only sell what their own boats catch, cooked to order. As fresh as it gets.

The fanciest spot in this section. A classic Newport restaurant on Bannister’s Wharf with an oyster bar and a fine dining room. Make a reservation and dress up a little.
Visit →
A rooftop restaurant on the water, just off Thames Street. A bit fancier. Get the corn gnocchi. Great for photos.
Visit →
A steakhouse with a seasonal menu inside the Bouchard Inn, a cozy French inn. It’s small, so make a reservation.
Visit →
Seafood on the wharf. Go here if you want to dress up for dinner, or if you want a very large lobster roll.
Visit →
A French bistro on Thames Street from the team behind Mission and Thames Street Kitchen. Classic dishes like beef tartare, escargots and a Grand Marnier soufflé. Make a reservation.
Visit →
Out on the point. Grab a glass of wine at the Adirondack Bar and a chair on the big back lawn. Chairs are first come, first served, and it’s worth the wait.
Visit →
A stylish bar tucked inside Gardiner House. Feels like a New York bar, with classic cocktails and a few fun twists. Good for a nightcap.
Visit →
We went for afternoon tea and loved it. A calm break from Thames Street, in a glass greenhouse or out in the garden on a nice day.
Visit →
Tacos, burritos and drinks on Bowen’s Wharf. The second floor has water views and a nice bar. Highly recommend.
